MelvinSaidJess #16: The Flowers

I love receiving flowers, but I've never been one to buy myself any because I knew they'd inevitably die. Knowing this, I wasn't too particular when it came to choosing flowers for our wedding. I did start knowing that I wanted lilies. They're my favorite. They always have been.

The second thing I knew was where I was going to get them. Shameless plug coming up. You've been warned. Haha. I knew I was going to get them from Balsam Hill. Yes, artificial flowers. I've seen the lilies up close and felt their realism. As far as secondary flowers went, I knew I wanted more white. I considered roses, but I felt underwhelmed by that. I also considered snapdragons or delphiniums, but those were more expensive than I cared to pay for. I ended up choosing white hydrangeas, and what I loved about them was the fact that I could buy a few, separate them (because they came in bundles) and use as bouquets for my bridal party.

In regards to using the flowers for décor, I wanted them to be multi-use. For the ceremony, I wanted to use lilies to line the aisle and decorate the arches. The hydrangeas were solely to be used in my bridal party's bouquets. For the reception, we alternated centerpieces. Some tables had tall vases of lilies, and others had short vases of hydrangeas repurposed from the bouquets. I also purchased several bundles of artificial agave leaves from Michaels that we used as additional greenery both along the aisles and on the reception tables.

All in all, we were quite happy about how it turned out. Nothing flashy. Simple and elegant.

And we still have them. :)
