MelvinSaidJess #20: The Date
I didn't read a ton of wedding magazines or blogs prior to planning our wedding, but I read enough to see multiple people talk about how you shouldn't plan your wedding around a date.
Being the stubborn Taurus that I am, I didn't follow that suggestion.
The date was one of the few things we had already decided on... or so we thought.
Originally, we wanted to get married on our 8 year anniversary. Exactly one year after we got engaged. We loved the idea of keeping the same anniversary date. I think Melvin probably loved that more so he wouldn't have to remember another date. Haha.
What I didn't take into consideration was the fact that 7/7/17 was such a popular wedding date (like 8/8/18 is this year) even though it landed on a Friday. Our top options were booked for that day. We got to the point where we almost settled on a place, but then I came to my senses and decided to change the day instead of settling on a place for the biggest day of our life.
Now, at this point, a less stubborn person would've opened up their options to any Saturday, but I, again, had a specific date in mind.
A date that had even more sentimental value.
Not many people know this, but there's a small line of Palola's that have May weddings — my cousin, my auntie & uncle, and my parents. Their dates? 19th, 21st, and 22nd respectively. So, naturally, filling in the missing date brought more sweetness to our love story.
Then, it was déjà vu all over again.
The place we had our eye on was booked. I was temporarily distraught before FINALLY opening up our options to whatever Saturday was available that summer.
In a wonderful twist of fate, the weekend of May 20th opened up, and we immediately booked our venue. I'll tell you more about that story in my next post...
In the meantime, live on the Bright Side.
