Happy Thursday! We're past the hump of the week otherwise known as Wednesday, and I am missing Tahoe.
I am still in awe of the beauty I witnessed being out of the city and in the middle of a very literal winter wonderland. I've seen snow before while spending a Christmas with family in New Jersey and witnessed a little snowfall in Seattle, but this, this experience was its own class of special.
My inner Muse flourished while we were there.
It was perfect timing because I left straight from work and we had celebrated Ugly/Tacky Christmas Sweater Day, so I was decked out in festive attire, taking pictures in the snow on the way to the cabin. It got even better a nighttime, when I changed out of my Christmas sweater into a Santa onesie from Target. Haha. Can you tell that I love this season?
I spent all weekend thoroughly enjoying myself slipping and sliding along the snow and falling into the fresh, untouched powder that coated the ground. I spent lots of time throwing snow directly above me simply to have it fall right back on top of me. If I wasn't tossing snow, I was tossing myself onto it, letting myself sink into the fluffiness of it all. Oh, I also found lots of joy in standing under smaller trees and shaking them so the snow would fall on me. Haha. Silly, I know, but so exciting for me!
Let's see if I can recap some fun firsts:
- I made my first snow angel! It was on the porch of the cabin. Six inches of snow coated the porch before we got there, so a few of us jumped out of the large cabin windows onto the blanket of snow.
- I went tobogganing for the first time! That was super fun. I loved being sprayed by the snow as I sped down the hill. On my last ride, I even caught some air!
- I made my first snowman! Well, I made mini snowmen and assisted my friends in the building of our life-size one. We had a Snowman Kit from Balsam Hill to assist in the creation of our frozen friend. And, OF COURSE, we were singing "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" from Frozen while doing it.
- Melvin and I got to enjoy a snow adventure together for the first time! He was mostly amused with me and my sister, saying that it was funny seeing us in the snow, since he's used to seeing us together in the warm weather of Hawaii. On the other hand, Jen got great shots of us that I'll probably use in holiday cards (if I actually get to them this year). :)
That weekend getaway was the first of its kind in my book. I've traveled with friends before, but staying in a cabin with a couple of close friends and acquaintances, sharing responsibilities and unique, first-time memories was unforgettable.
Until next year, Tahoe.
