Last weekend was my first weekend back home, and my parents generously gave my boyfriend and I the opportunity to stay at the Ko'Olina Resort for a few days.
Now, even though Ko'Olina is my go-to beach to hang out with family whenever I visit, I felt like it was a whole new experience for me. I don't know if it was because everything was greener due to the heavy rain Hawaii has been having, but I felt oddly in awe of the beauty surrounding me. I say 'oddly in awe' because I grew up here. I can't tell you how many times I've been to Ko'Olina. Yet, each morning, as Melvin and I walked to get breakfast and turned the corner to another lagoon, I would gasp at the view in front of me.
Don't get me wrong, I have always considered myself blessed to call Hawaii my home, but I feel like I was able to see Hawaii through the eyes of someone who has never been here and has only heard or seen its beauty through the photos of others. It was a very humbling experience for me, and one that I will remember each time I get the chance to come home.
I know it's not the necessarily the most budget-friendly thing to do, but I encourage those of you who live in Hawaii to take a weekend to stay at a resort sometime to remind yourself how much of a blessing it is to live in such a beautiful place.
